Navigating the Future: Kris Lin's Innovative Sales Center Design

Reviving a Century-Old Shipyard with Modern Architectural Brilliance

Steering a course through history and innovation, Kris Lin's design for the Navigator Sales Center in Tianjin, China, pays homage to the site's shipbuilding past while charting a course for the future.

Once the heart of China's shipbuilding industry, the Tianjin Shipyard has been transformed into a modern sales center by acclaimed designer Kris Lin. The project, aptly named the Navigator Sales Center, is a tribute to the shipyard's century-old history and its significant contribution to the navigation industry.

The design concept of the Navigator Sales Center is inspired by a large ship sailing on the sea. The building, set against an exterior waterscape, appears like a ship from afar. LED light strips on the building refract off the water, creating a perfect mirror image and adding a dreamlike beauty to the space. This combination of architecture and landscape forms a futuristic vision of a modern ship.

The Navigator Sales Center is constructed using matt exterior fluorocarbon paint and opaque wired glass, with bronze brushed stainless steel revealing the concept of the hull. Inside, marine gray marble and top lighting effects create an atmosphere of an indoor clear sky. The design connects two separate buildings - the mock-up and sales office - through a corridor, creating a unified structure.

The building's unique design is not just an artistic statement but also a technological marvel. The profile of the ship is outlined with flow lines and LED light strips, presenting a modern ship with a futuristic sense of science and technology. The design aims to present a pure artistic work with artistic flow lines and a large ship intent that combines modern art and historical rudiments.

The Navigator Sales Center project was completed in Tianjin, China, in 2018. The design faced the challenge of connecting two separate buildings into a single entity through architectural and landscape design. The solution was to combine architecture, landscape, and interior design to achieve a holistic design concept.

The project has been recognized for its innovative design and respect for history, winning the Platinum A' Architecture, Building, and Structure Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, contribute to societal wellbeing, and make the world a better place.
